Ealing Council’s Transport Strategy

Ealing Council is currently developing its Transport Strategy (2025-2041), due to be published in summer 2025.

The council’s ambition for the future of transport is for walking, wheeling, cycling and public transport to be the natural choices for everyday short journeys in the borough. This will reduce congestion, improve air quality, and make journeys easier for those who need to drive or be driven.

The strategy will be an engaging and accessible document explaining this ambition, the case for change, the priorities for each of the seven towns, and a set of principles for delivering transport in the future.

Engaging with residents and stakeholders

As you know, Ealing Council has a complex relationship with residents when it comes to transport, after the implementation of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) in 2020-21. The Travel in Ealing Charter was published in 2023, as a commitment to residents that we would learn from this experience, and would be open and inclusive in how we talk to residents about transport and active travel.

Building on the Charter, we are now undertaking an eight-week programme of in-depth engagement with residents and stakeholders, not about the draft strategy, but on the broader topics of how they get around, any issues or obstacles they experience, and their views and insights for making improvements. We will be working with Project Centre to run a range of interactive workshops, drop-in events and other sessions throughout February and March, to ensure the voices of our residents and stakeholders are captured, and the strategy meets the needs of all who live and work in the borough.

Feedback on resident and stakeholder travel choices and experiences will be gathered through a series of conversational workshops, hosted in each of the 7 towns plus the North Acton/Park Royal area, and through an online survey via Commonplace. To capture the diverse range of voices that represent our borough, we will be meeting with:

  • residents
  • faith groups
  • local businesses
  • community groups
  • residents’ associations

We will use a range of venues including:

  • high streets
  • places of worship
  • schools
  • community centres
  • food banks
  • dementia cafes
  • leisure centres
  • and other community venues.

We are seeking residents’ views and experiences of eight key areas:

  • Walking and wheeling
  • Cycling
  • Public transport
  • Driving and parking
  • Safety
  • Accessibility and inclusivity
  • Environment
  • Creating healthy spaces

The engagement events will be promoted via Around Ealing.com, social media and the council’s newsletter Around Ealing extra. After the engagement period closes on 30th March, we will use these insights, along with our wider base of transport data and evidence, to create our new Transport Strategy. The Strategy itself will then go out for public consultation, for further feedback.

All information and the survey is available on Commonplace, which will also be linked from the council website. More events will be added to this page as they confirm the dates.
